Operating Grants - Novel Population Genetic and Genetic Epidemiological Approaches for Studies of Complex Traits competition
Institute of Genetics (IG)
Human genetics has entered the genome era. A complete 99.9% accurate, annotated human genome sequence is publicly available as well as an assembled contig, with a completed sequence and highly accurate gene annotation for many genomic regions. With recently released genotype data for millions of SNPs by the International Haplotype Map project and others, additional tools have become available. An important next step is to begin teasing apart the genetic components of complex diseases; as well as genetic factors influencing single gene disorders and their joint effects with environmental influences.
The purpose of this program is to build research capacity in the area of population genetics and genetic epidemiology of complex diseases. This initiative will support individuals or teams to develop and evaluate new theories, strategies and methodologies needed to facilitate more conclusive, high-quality etiological studies of such diseases.
The Institute of Genetics is pleased to announce the results of the Operating Grants - Novel Population Genetic and Genetic Epidemiological Approaches for Studies of Complex Traits competition. A total of nine applications were received to the January 16, 2006 deadline, of which three were approved for funding. The Institute of Genetics and the Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction are providing funding for this initiative. A peer review committee adjudicated applications.
